Injured in an Auto Accident?

auto injuries are commonly helped by seeing a chiropractor

What are some of the common symptoms of neck pain and whiplash injury?

Neck pain is not always felt the same, symptomatically. One person might not be able to turn their head side to side while driving. While other people always complain of tight or stiff neck and shoulders, or maybe headaches that seem to start at the top of the neck/base of the skull. Yet some have sharp shooting pain or radiation down the arm or into the posterior shoulder with resulting numbness, weakness, or tingling in the fingers. Our Shawnee office can help with these symptoms.

What are the most common causes of neck pain?

Usually the cause of neck pain is a direct injury to the head and neck, from a fall, whiplash injury or a blow to the head. Often the resulting pain is immediate, but sometimes it flairs up years later. However, more and more commonly people are developing neck pain as a result of increased technology use. In today’s culture we spend long hours with bad posture in front of a computer, or using our cell phone and tablet in our laps, which can really stress and strain our necks.

What are traditional treatments for whiplash injuries?

Many patients that we see with past neck injuries are treated for pain and possibly for concussion. They are given pain killers, muscle relaxer, and maybe even a neck brace at the time of the injury. Most are often never treated for the resulting biomechanical and soft tissues injuries of the spine. Over time this can result in severe neck pain and dysfunction, possibly leading to spinal degeneration years later.

What treatment does our office offer for neck pain?

We offer a combination of treatments for neck pain, and we tailor it to fit your individual needs. Often we use chiropractic treatment to correct the biomechanical issues, paired with soft tissue treatment through the form of Graston Technique or Active Myofascial Release. We also offer spinal decompression treatment for cervical disc injury. By treating multiple components in combination we find that we get better lasting results. Exercises are often recommended to help correct bad posture as seen in upper cross syndrome or slouching forward head carriage.
